MEMBER PROFILE
Robert Earl Member
Robert Earl has been a member for two years. "I came to Alternatives when I first moved to Ithaca," Robert says of his experience. "I was able to sit down with a mortgage loan officer and find out exactly what I needed to get a mortgage. The thing about Alternatives is that applying for a loan isn't just a "no" or "yes" process. Other financial institutions just say "no" or "yes," but at Alternatives you get the way to get to "yes." The loan officer devises a plan to make it happen. The conversation is positive."

About Alternatives
Alternatives is an innovative CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution) that offers a unique combination
of financial and community development services. Chartered in 1979, Alternatives
has a successful record serving micro-enterprise, non-profits and the low-income
population of Tompkins County, New York.
Alternatives Credit Union is an interesting and
pleasant place to work; big enough to offer all the benefits one would expect
to find in this industry, yet still of a size that keeps all employees involved
in the Credit Union's successes on a personal level.
We have a participatory staffing structure with full staff meetings at least twice a month. Communication is enhanced by departmental meetings. Staff participates in decisions that affect their work place. Our broad job descriptions offer each staff person greater latitude to develop, and we back that development with a policy of promoting from within. Every staff member is encouraged to serve on a community board and receives compensation from the Credit Union for doing so.
