MEMBER PROFILE
CEO Bill Myers to Retire
Jacqueline Reeves
![]() The Homebuyer's Class at Ithaca Neighborhood Housing was an eye opener to all the possibilities and obstacles that I had to complete in order to achieve my goal. All this snowballed into me connecting with Alternatives. Brendan Wilbur and the staff there were helpful in setting up an IDA, a program where I can pay the bills needed to maintain a household and still be able to save. These are both things that I love to do. The IDA program provides people with information on the steps to homeownership. It's been a great experience for me, and I hope that young people are inspired to follow up on their dreams - if not for themselves - then for the generation that we have the responsibility to raise.
June, 2007 — Yes, it's true. After 28 years at the helm, Bill Myers is retiring from Alternatives Federal Credit Union. Anyone who has worked with Bill cannot help but be impressed with Bill's keen sense of purpose and sharp intellect on how to convert purpose into action. He has worked tirelessly to make the Alternatives Federal Credit Union mission "to build wealth in the community" a reality. And then, using Alternatives as his experimental station, he shares successes with the world. Now it's our turn to thank him for all he's done for Alternatives, for the community, for the credit union movement, for community development, and beyond.Bill Myers Youth Internship Bill didn't want a building named after him. He didn't want a gold watch. He wanted to see his work in starting the Student Credit Union and educating youth continue. The Internship will provide support and opportunity to youth committed to working on issues of economic and social justice. Our ambition is to ignite the community development spark in the bright leaders of tomorrow. Our Board committed Credit Union and personal funds to this Internship and ask you to join them in honoring Bill Myers and his outstanding contribution to community development credit unions.
